Hoonah

In the Tlingit Indian Native village of Hoonah, on the south side of Icy Strait in Southeast Alaska we found eagles by the dozens, beautiful totem poles and trusting, friendly people (amazing what happens when one gets away from large urban areas). Here, too, we found what we photographers call "magic light," with great sunsets and backlighting. Pictured below is a detail from a brand-new totem pole in the village. Since this image was made the pole has been moved to a new location just outside of Hoonah..
