Alaska 2008!
This summer Betty will be leading her 11th and 12th trips for Dolphin Charters, which features small-boat travel to some of the best wildlife and scenic destinations in Southeast Alaska. On the 2008 trips, groups of up to eight passengers, using the 50-foot boat the Delphinus as an eating/sleeping base, commune with bears, whales and glaciers.
The first trip takes place in spectacular Glacier Bay National Park. The Delphinus departs from Hoonah on July 6 and concludes in Juneau on July 12. Right now only one space is left available for a man. Cost is $3150.
The second trip, with room for one man, covers some of the best of the best of Alaska. Over a period of eight days, we travel from Juneau to Wrangell. We already have reservations for Pack Creek (fishing brown bears) and Anan Creek (fishing black bears and occasional brown bears). The trip goes July 15 to July 23. Included is a jet boat trip on the morning of July 23 up the Stikine River to Shakes Glacier, a place of startling beauty. Not long after leaving Juneau we'll detour to either Tracy Arm or Fords Terror, each of which are amazing realms of blue, blue ice and rugged cliffs. Cost is $3995, and add roundtrip airfare plus a couple of nights of hotel in Alaska. Unfortunately, fuel costs have risen dramatically and likely will be even higher in 2009; however, you'll find the cost of this trip more than competitive with similar Alaska adventures.

Pricing for 2009 has just become available, and because of rising fuel costs, it looks like prices will be increasing about $400 per person. So if you have a chance to go now, do it! The 2009 trip goes from Wrangell to Juneau from July 31-August 8 and costs $4395. Expect incredible scenery, great food, bear closeups and lots of humpback whales! This trip of a lifetime is worth every penny.
